Gran Canaria
Gran Canaria is a volcanic island shaped by erosion, contrast and scale. Vast, rocky mountain landscapes dominate much of the island, carved by time into sharp ridges and deep ravines. Within this seemingly harsh terrain, unexpected miniature worlds emerge. The Maspalomas dunes form a true miniature Sahara, while El Bufadero mirrors the dramatic energy of Thor’s Well as the Atlantic surges through volcanic stone. Elsewhere, the narrow rock corridors of Barranco de las Vacas recall a small-scale echo of Antelope Canyon. Higher elevations often drift in mist, creating cooler, more humid refuges where subtropical vegetation thrives — most notably in the lush Los Tilos forest, or in the distinctly different Tamadaba Natural Park, a protected highland reserve of ancient Canary pine forests. Along the coast, rugged volcanic cliffs meet the ocean, completing the island’s striking visual diversity.
